Great weekend

July 28th, 2010

I worked for the Just For Laughs Festival this past Saturday, drawing portraits of twins. Here are some of the cool people I met:

The day ended early, which was bittersweet. It would have been nice to be able to stick around and talk to some fellow artists, but I decided to join my dragonboat team to watch their final race of the day. When we were exchanging cards, I found out that a few people already knew my name and have already seen my work (OK, ‘a few’ being 2 people). One girl, whose name escapes me at the moment, already has my card because she attended the vernissage at l’!llustre Galerie on the 15th. Adeline, the other person who recognized my name, said, ¨Daniel Ha, you make comics right?¨ Adeline also has connections to Usine 106u, a very distinct (for the lack of a better word) gallery in Montreal. I felt like I’ve finally made a tiny mark somewhere, it’s a great feeling.

On Sunday, I participated in my 1st dragonboat competition and our team walked away with a bronze (500m) and a silver (250m) medal. It’s the 1st time I’ve won anything in a sporting event. Here’s a pic:

4-Also, 1 of my works at the exhibit at l’!llustre Galerie has been purchased. The exhibit is still on until August 21st.

After that I’ll be on vacation for real. That means I’ll have blisters on my thumbs from playing Fight Night Round 4. Or maybe I’ll be able to give some undivided attention.

satisfaction

May 16th, 2010

I’m short. No one is going to step aside to let me walk by. People aren’t scared of being run over by an oriental Peter Parker before the spider bit him. Yeah, I’m male and Asian. No one is gonna give me free stuff or attention because I’m so goodlooking. I want to make a living as a cartoonist. Women won’t ask me to sign their bras, even if I do make it. Every now and then, after spending hours alone at the drawing table or the computer, I’ll finish something. There is no money or no fame or no hot female fans. However, there is satisfaction.

Then satisfaction gets printed into a little book that can go on my bookshelf. It becomes satisfaction with some super soldier serum.
